A Play with Layers

On Friday the 13th the theater crew performed a play where it takes place in a dystopian future where teenagers are stuck in a maze with a crazy game master who has emotional guards where the teens need to figure out how to escape.

Ms.M and the crew put in a lot of work the inspiration on the play was Ms.M had a few scripts she knew and liked and asked the class what they liked and approved of that. They also wanted to perform fun and funny but made sure it was original to the script they had. They had to get it approved by the publishing company for the rights of the scripts and once it was approved, they started casting on who wanted the big parts and who wanted the little parts. The biggest delay they had was rehearsal because they had to talk to the admin to get it approved. Another reason why rehearsals were pretty delayed was attendance and barely many people came. The props and costumes coming in on time from Amazon was another big struggle. Something Ms.M said wished went differently, were the microphones and that they work d correctly because the audio single was connected to the hospital one. Also, more rehearsal time because she wanted them to do more downstage interaction because it was mainly upstage and for the actors to slow it down and make it more clear so the audience could understand.

I interviewed some of the kids who were performing and behind the scenes in the play on Friday and their thoughts. Blue played as the game master in this play. They said they have been practicing for this play for 3 months. After the performance, they felt Euphoric and something they said they would have improved on is adding more energy and for them to trust their instances. Matthew from the theater production filmed the play. He said they rehearsed with the theater crew for 3 days before the play, checking to see if light, sound, cameras, etc to see if it works. I got to interview some of the other actors and ask them a few questions.

“Were there any struggles/ delays you dealt with?”

K: “Probably Memorizing with lines and Blocking on the stage (moving around)”

“How did you feel after the performance?”

K: “I felt really proud after the show.”

“Were there any struggles/ delays you dealt with?”

A: “I also struggled with memorizing lines.”

“How did you feel after the performance?”

A: “Relief it was all over, and still ended up as the main character!”

“What was something you wish you could have done differently?”

A: “Practice with some people because the scene with me and Kira would have a lot of movement because we practice a lot but with other people it looks stiff, also more team effort.

“Were there any struggles/ delays you dealt with?”

R: “I’m kinda a slow learner so memorizing lines was pretty difficult.”

“How did you feel after the performance?”

R: “Accomplish because I learned all my lines in a day and know where I had to block.”

“How did you feel after the performance?”

A: “Embarrassed because I had to beatbox and didn’t want to do it but I pushed through it. Other than that I felt good and felt like in the play I was staying in character.”

“Were there any struggles/ delays you dealt with?”

M: “On the day of the performance my throat was dry so I couldn’t speak much and I was Nervous throughout the play.”

“How did you feel after the performance?”

M: “I felt very accomplished.”

“What was something you wish you could have done differently?”

M: “Definitely giving it my best and giving it my all.”
